An Heartfelt Prayer

An heart felt prayer

This is an encouragement about how to pray. You may be facing an unexpected attack with difficulties on every side and you feel helpless. Take heart from this prayer. As you sing and praise circumstances will change and you will be rewarded.

A prayer when a king was facing great armies.

2 Chronicles 20

5 Jehoshaphat stood before the community of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the new courtyard at the Temple of the Lord. 6 He prayed, “O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!

Whenever we are faced with any calamity such as war, plague, or famine, we can come to stand in your presence before this Temple where your name is honored. We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us.’

10 “And now see what the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir are doing.
O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.”

13 As all the men of Judah stood before the Lord with their little ones, wives, and children, 14 the Spirit of the Lord came upon one of the men standing there. His name was Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite who was a descendant of Asaph.

15 He prophesied , “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16 Tomorrow, march out against them. But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”

20 Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.”

21 After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor.
Give thanks to the Lord;
his faithful love endures forever!”

22 At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. There was so much plunder it took three days to collect it.

An Important Scripture

An Important Scripture

2 Chronicles 15 v 2-5
The Lord will stay with you as long as you stay with him.

Whenever you seek him you will find him.
But if you abandon him he will abandon you.
For a long time Israel was without the true God. Without a priest to teach them and without God’s law.

Whenever you were in distress and turned to the Lord and sought him out you found him.
Problems troubled the nation on every hand.
God was troubling you with every kind of problem.

Can anyone relate to this scripture. Have you problems? Are you in distress? Turn to God again. Read his Word. Listen to teaching from God’s Word. Pray. God will give you peace and deliver you from trouble.

Angels on Guard

Brendan and I called down to visit our son and his family one evening. It was around bedtime. Some of their children gathered in the living room as their mum and I talked.

They were telling me that they had been at the River Quoile Countryside Park. One of the boys said to Esther “Show granny the feather you found today.” She produced a large white feather.

I said, “Oh your angel may have dropped a feather.” I had just been reading a book called “Seeing Angels” by Joshua Mills. In this book he describes that some angels he has seen have very large feathers!

Everyone went quiet and listened. I continued telling the children that there are angels encamped around them to deliver them. Also each child is allocated an angel. Scripture says Your angel beholds the face of God in heaven. I told them not to be afraid of the dark or danger.

Their Mum told me they were climbing over the ruins of a castle without fear. A man came up to her and rebuked her for not looking after her children.

She remembered me telling her about a New Zealand couple who let their children run and climb and jump with freedom. Irish parents are more fearful. Don’t let Jimmy climb that tree. He might fall and break his neck. We took our friends example and let our children roam as well.

Later Mum said she was talking to two of her boys the night before about angels after one awoke with anxiety. I repeated exactly what she had told her boys. I got my grand children’s attention.

Writing Down

It’s the last week of school for children here in Northern Ireland. University students have finished their year’s study and have finished their exams. Then comes the waiting time. Will I pass my exams? Will I get the grades I need to get to further education or get the job I desire?

I was blessed to have to opportunity to get a good education. I obtained a degree at university fifty years ago. I got a job as a teacher. I had reached the top. Many young people across the world would love the opportunity I had.

I got married and had two children. Should I go back to work as a teacher and earn money and pay someone to look after my children? My heart was not in going back to work. I wanted to care for my children. I soon realised that getting a degree at university did not prepare me for being a wife or mother.

Something was going to happen that changed my life forever. Brendan and I would spend time in our local pub at the weekends. Every Saturday night someone from the Salvation Army would come into the pub and he would sing a Christian hymn. He would leave behind some Christian literature. The publican called for order when the Salvation Army man would speak. He respected the messanger who came to his pub every weekend.

This same publican gave me my first bible. I began to read it. I couldn’t leave it down. I started on a new course of education. I began to write down significant words that applied to my life. One that stood out for me was Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life.

Down though the years I have made many notes. I have shelves full of notebooks. Brendan calls them my rewrites. I was listening to a program on a radio station this morning. The speaker shared the importance of writing down by hand what one reads from the bible. It’s a way of remembering and letting what it says sink into my heart. This confirms to me the importance of what I have been doing for years. The Word of God has become my teacher about life. It is indeed true that Jesus is the way the truth and the life.
To be continued.

The Rain of The Holy Spirit

The sun is coming up. It’s s new day. The birds are singing. In every country I have been to I hear the birdsong every morning. Behind prison bars one can hear. If one’s heart is heavy the sound of the birdsong lifts one up. Life is all around.

Yesterday was Father’s day. If you remembered your dad on Father’s Day and got in touch well done. Better still honouring your father comes with a promise. It will go well with you and you will live a long life.

I was on holiday in Florida for my fiftieth birthday, a present from my family. I was talking to a lady in a store, saying I was from Ireland and that I had fourteen children. She said Oh your poor husband. She understood the difficulty of rearing a big family.

It was only when I had children of my own that I appreciated my father and mother’s sacrifice in rearing us. It can be too late to thank them or say you love them. Often people die of a broken heart, sad because of loneliness or not hearing from family.

Whether a father, a son or a daughter take heart. God promises to pour his Spirit out on you today. You need never be alone.

I joined with the birds in singing this morning. I remembered the chorus.

It’s beginning to rai-ai-ain-hear the the voice of my father-
He’s saying who so ever will, come and drink of my water-
He’s promised to pour his spirit out, on your sons and your daughters-
If your thisty and dry, look up to the sky, it’s beginning to rain!

At that first drop of rain that you start to hear, throw open the windows-
Call all your children together, and throw wide the door!
When the rains of the spirit are starting to fall, fill every vessal-
He who drinks his fill, will thirst no more!

It’s beginning to rain- hear the voice of my Father-
He’s saying who so ever will come and drink of my water!
He’s promised! To pour his spirit out, on your sons and your daughters!
You will find this song on U Tube

God sends the rain for the farmers to plant crops in springtime . I believe this springtime God is pouring out the rain of the Holy Spirit on his people. We are weary, sick and sad after the long lockdown. People need new hope and life and love.

Look up. It’s beginning to rain over you.

The Double Rainbow

Brendan and I have returned from a trip to Israel. Jerusalem is a city full of the history about God Almighty in heaven and his dealings with His people on earth. He chose the descendants of Abraham as his people, Israel. We witnessed Jewish families, young and old, teenagers, young soldiers walking the streets of Jerusalem. I receive a Blessing in Jerusalem.

More than any other place in creation The Lord loves Jerusalem are the words of a hymn.

It takes time to settle back home after a trip. One has to readjust. Last Friday night Brendan and I were driving out to a friend’s house. It was raining in the midst of sunshine. When we turned a corner from our street in Belfast a double rainbow appeared ahead of us. The rainbow stayed with us on our journey out of town. A strong coloured rainbow rose from the horizon on the left in a large arc to the horizon on the right. Above it was a more faded rainbow.

We sometimes call ourselves the Rainbow Family. When we went on walks, at the beach, on journeys, a rainbow would appear in the sky to remind us of God’s presence with us, his love , his care and His faithfulness to keep His promises. God put a rainbow in the sky after the Flood. It is a sign and promise to Noah and mankind that God would never again flood the earth.
There is a rainbow around God’s throne in heaven. Here is a reference to it.

1 Ezekiel v 25 and 29
And on this throne high above was a figure whose appearance resembled a man. All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me.

The display of the rainbow in the sky above us on Friday night spoke of that Glory of God around the throne. A little bit of heaven over Belfast.

If you are waiting for God’s promise to you, don’t give up. God is working it out for you.

Abortion Debate

I went to The New University of Ulster to study Environmental Science in 1969. The first essay title was The Origin of man. I knew my lecturers wanted me to say that man was descended from some ape through evolution. Back then I definitely didn’t believe I was descended from an Ape. Animals and humans are different. Despite not getting a good mark for my first attempt at debate on the Origin of Man I went on to finish my degree and graduate.

A few years later I was married and was raising two children. A friend gave me a bible to read. I read the first page of the bible in Genesis. It is written that God created the earth and the first man. He was made in God’s image. God created Eve and He told Adam and Eve to increase and multiply and fill the earth. This sets us apart from animals. I now had something to tell my lecturers about the origin of man.
“And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply,
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:27-28‬ ‭ASV‬‬

It is because I read this scripture and believed it, Brendan and I have fourteen children. God helped us as we raised our children. We increased and multiplied.

I had a miscarriage when my baby was 12 weeks old. She would have been my ninth child. I saw clearly the unformed body, head, legs and arms. We put our little baby in a wooden box and bought a grave. We stood around the graveside with our other children while the grave digger made a small hole for the box. We prayed. Psalm 139:says all the days ordained for me were written in your book. I believe our baby even though only twelve weeks old is in heaven, where I will see her again.

There is much debate nowadays among politicians who agree to abort babies. What age a child in the womb should be killed, 12 weeks, 22 weeks or full term? I believe a child is created at conception. He is made in God’s image. I believe abortion is against the law of God which is to love God and love your neighbor. Not recognizing a child in the womb is not recognizing the God who created the child in the womb.

Jesus said let the little children come to me for such is the kingdom of God.

I’ll leave you with a statistic I read today. Sixty three million babies aborted in America since 1973. Ten million babies aborted in Britain since 1967.

Remember What God Did For You

The children of Israel saw God deliver them from the power of Pharoah who had made them his slaves. God sent Moses to Pharoah to ask him to let the Lord’s people go free to worship Him. Pharoah scorned Moses for asking that and made the people of Israel work even harder. Eventually after plagues even to the death of the eldest sons of Egypt Pharoah let them go.

The Dead Sea opened up for them to leave Egypt. God appeared to them in the desert in a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day. God was with them and set them free to worship Him. He set them apart as his own people. He gave them guidelines on how to live.

So the people who saw God’s wonders obeyed God and their leaders, Joshua snd Moses. But after they died the next generation did not continue to obey or worship God. They worshiped the gods of the people around them. God gave them over to their enemies who oppressed them. This new generation had to learn how to deal with their enemies.
Judges 3 v 2 says He did this to teach warfare to generations of Israelites who had no experience in battle.

We are God’s people who believe in Jesus. Are we often like the Israelites who forgot God? We know his mercy to deliver us out of bondage but we soon forget his goodness and go our own way serving other gods who take our time, money and energy.

Some of us have seen his miracles of healing and deliverance. But we soon forget. We don’t want to fight. But with God’s help we can defeat our enemies. So they come back to rob, steal and destroy us. There is no middle ground. As Bob Dylan said you got to serve somebody. It may be the devil, it may be the Lord but you got to serve somebody.

Jesus said in Luke 21 v 34. Watch out. Don’t let me catch you in careless ease and drunkenness. Keep a constant watch and pray. Jesus is returning soon. Don’t be like the five foolish virgins who weren’t ready when the bridegroom returned.

Read God’s Word and pray in the Holy Spirit often. You have to fight so you don’t loose the ground you have taken.

You Will Never Thirst Again

Where am I?

You can find me on Google map. We had someone visit us recently. Before she came she checked out our address on google map . When she arrived she kept looking up at a neighbour’s chimney. She said where is the tree? On google map she had noticed a small sapling growing out of a chimney. You’ll be pleased to say it was removed earlier in the year. The whole chimney had to be dismantled and rebuilt at great expense to the owner.

Back to this morning. I having coffee in my local Cafe Nero’s. Outside the window two lorries parked up. Men unloaded disbatches of boxes of alcohol to the neighbouring shop, an off licence. Plenty of bottles of wine, cans of larger and spirits. The shop is restocking its supplies for the holiday weekend.

Many people are thirsty. Will the alcoholic drinks quench their thirst? No they don’t. Next day one can awake and be thirsty again. Jesus said to the woman at the well He would give her water she would never thirst again. What is this water?

The Holy Spirit is the water Jesus promised. Believe in Jesus and receive this water that will quench your thirsty soul. The water will bring healing, restoration, refreshing and new life. It doesn’t bring a hangover or pain or guilt.

What is so special about this weekend. Do you know? To me it is very special. I am reminded of the One who came from heaven to live and show me that God is my Father. He died for me on the cross, rose from the dead and sent the Holy Spirit to help me and comfort me and lead me into truth. He raised me from nearly dying of cancer and I am alive.

The Helper

Good morning all.  Brendan was reading this passage today.  It is very appropriate as we head into Holy Week.  All over the world Easter is celebrated.  May the Holy Spirit move all over the world this year 2022.

 John 14 v 15

If you love me, you will obey my commandments. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is in you.

“Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. My Father will love those who love me; I too will love them and reveal myself to them.”

Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “Lord, how can it be that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?”

Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and my Father and I will come to them and live with them. Those who do not love me do not obey my teaching. And the teaching you have heard is not mine, but comes from the Father, who sent me.

“I have told you this while I am still with you. The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you.

Jesus was talking to his disciples at his last supper with them.

The Holy Spirit that Jesus promised has come to the earth.  He has come to every believer in Jesus.  He teaches us the truth about Jesus.  The Holy Spirit will make us remember all he has told us.  He wants us to obey Jesus teaching.

If you have experienced the Holy Spirit in your life in the past this post is for you.  Perhaps you have  not continued to obey Jesus commands to love God and love one another.  God gave Moses ten commandments for the people of Israel.  Jesus didn’t come to make Moses commandments useless.  They are condensed in this one command that Jesus gave.

I hear some Christians say,  “I’m an adult. I have choices.” A Christian does not have his own choices.  Is his lifestyle one of obeying Jesus.  He needs to obey Jesus.

Come back to God today .  Return.  The devil has trapped you on your journey with Jesus.  He is holding you captive  through sin.  Release yourself and ask Jesus help.

The devil stops people receiving the Holy Spirit.  If you do receive Him the devil will come to make you doubt and not continue to believe.   We have had two years of not meeting together.  Our souls have become dry.  One can feel like giving up.  Today is a new day   Like Paul said to Timothy stir up the gift within you.  Pray in the Spirit again snd don’t let the devil stop you.  Resist him and he will flee from you in Jesus name.

Do a check list. Look back and remember when did you heart grow cold? Return to God . Jesus healed everyone who asked him when He was on earth. Ask today for healing. He is the same yesterday and forever. Ask for The Holy Spirit. God will not give you a snake or a st
