Water in the Dry Valley

“The Holy Spirit is often referred to as water in the scriptures. Jesus told his disciples before he was going to his death that he needed to go so he could send the comforter, the Holy Spirit to them. The Holy Spirit gave them power to be witnesses for the Saviour and to work miracles, signs and wonders like Jesus did when he was on earth.

I was excited to read the story in 2 Kings 3 about the King of Israel, the King of Judah and the King of Edom going to war against the King of Moab. The three kings and their armies had travelled through the wilderness for seven days. They were in big trouble because they had no water for their men, horses and cattle. They were afraid the King of Moab would defeat them.

King Jehosophat called for the prophet Elisha a man of God. He asked God to help.

Elisha said, “Now bring me someone who can play the harp.” While the harp was being played, the power of the Lord came upon Elisha, and he said, “This is what the Lord says: Make this dry valley full of ditches. You will see neither wind nor rain, says the Lord, but this valley will be filled with water. You will have plenty for yourselves and your cattle and other animals. “

But this is only a simple thing for the Lord, for he will make you victorious over the army of Moab! You will conquer the best of their towns, even the fortified ones. You will cut down all their good trees, stop up all their springs, and ruin all their good land with stones.” ‭‭‬‬

The next day at about the time when the morning sacrifice was offered, water suddenly appeared! It was flowing from the direction of Edom, and soon there was water everywhere.”
‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭3:9, 15-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God worked a miracle by providing water for so many people.
Can the same God not send his Holy Spirit to the dry valleys of our lives? Yes he can.
I pray that God will pour out his Spirit on anyone who is dry and thirsty today in Jesus name. Amen.

Spring Rain in Jerusalem.

It’s a miracle that so many people from different faiths and cultures live in harmony in Jerusalem.

When we arrived in Israel it was raining. This is the season when the rain comes to water the dry ground in Israel to help prepare for the sowing of seeds. We have been to Israel before but this is the first time we have seen the rain. I looked forward expectantly to our time in Israel. Will we receive His spring rain?
I was reminded of the scripture from Hosea,

““Come, let us return to the LORD.I
He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us;
he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.
After two days he will revive us;
On the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.
Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises, he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth.””
‭‭Hosea‬ ‭6:1-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I haven’t been disappointed. I have been rested and refreshed in my body, soul and spirit. I have seen prophetic words from the scripture develop before me eyes.

4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.
5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.
6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts. Hosea 6 v 4 to 6. KJV

They are many young couples with babies in prams, children holding onto their arms, and pregnant mothers in Israel. It has a growing population. God is bringing his people the Jews back from all the nations of the earth to live in the land of Israel. We met Ethiopian, Russian and American Jews.

Old people, couples walking hand in hand, others on canes are walking through the streets. They have lived here to see the fulfilment of prophecy. Nearby where we are staying is a school. Yesterday morning as we went out we met young boys and girls chirping happily as they entered the doors.

“In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house will be the highest of all— the most important place on earth.
It will be raised above the other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there to worship.
People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob’s God.
There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the Lord’s teaching will go out from Zion; his word will go out from Jerusalem.”

Satan Get out of Here

My mantra for 2019 is “Satan get out of here.”

I discovered this verse in the scriptures this week. Satan came to tempt Jesus when he was weak after fasting for forty days. Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of this world which belonged to him. He wanted Jesus to bow down and worship him.

“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the LORD your God and serve only him.’ ””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jesus died three years later on the cross. He shed his blood to defeat Satan and take from him all his authority over all the kingdoms of this world. Jesus gave this authority to us to rule and reign and bring God’s kingdom on earth in His name.

He gave authority to his disciples. He told them to wait in Jerusalem till they received power from on high. They waited in the upper room till the Holy Spirit fell on them in tongues of fire. The Holy Spirit gave them power to be witnesses about Jesus.
The same power is promised to us.

Satan will do all he can to stop us knowing about the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Holy Spirit gives us power over all the works of the enemy. “Not by might or power but by his Spirit” says the Lord.

The Holy Spirit gives us power to change. He renews our minds. We don’t have to be good. He makes us good and delivers us from the power of the enemy. Satan had the woman bound for eighteen years. Satan had the woman bleeding for twelve years. Jesus set them free. Alleluia to Jesus. He healed me from cancer and is healing my bones after breaking my arm. He helps us in our troubles. Don’t be defeated this year. Overcome in Jesus

Healing Scriptures Spoken by Holly Wagner

I was given a CD of healing scriptures by a young lady who was with Shirley Bowers from Huntingdon in England when they came to my home.  Shirley Bowers works in  reconciliation.  God has led her to come to Ireland to repent to the Irish people for what Cromwell did to the Irish in the sixteenth century.  He murdered the Irish and drove them away from their homes and land.  He separated families.  Shirley said to me “What Cromwell did to the Irish was like a cancer that spread throughout the people bringing hatred and revenge.  She prayed for me that I would be healed from cancer.  Very often we don’t know what can affect us that is beyond our control.  Evil powers can be ruling over us and only God can set us free.

The CD is a compilation of healing scriptures, with instrumental background music, read by Holly Wagner.  She and her husband pastor Oasis Church in California.  Her CD is available on the internet.  She was healed from 1st stage breast cancer .  Every day she read the scriptures referring to healing. This helped her heal.  She made this CD to help other people suffering from diseases.

Holly Wagner’s voice spoke forth scriptures where healing is mentioned.  Her voice brought me healing.  Joy came out of her words.
A cheerful heart is good medicine.  (‭Proverbs‬ ‭17‬:‭22‬ NIV)
The tongue of the wise brings healing.  Proverbs 15 v 17
The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life.  Proverbs  15
The scriptures I listened to were like medicine to my body.  If the doctor prescribes medicine for a sickness one will faithfully obey his directions.  How much more should one take God’s medicine.  It is free to try out.  If I was discouraged, fearful or feeling down, I would listen again and my heart would be lifted up.  This medicine healed my thoughts and body.

By listening to the God’s healing scriptures, my faith grew, my mind was changed, fear began to leave.  The truth of Gods words calmed my fears.  I was taking my medicine.  I was surrounded by my family who believed in God.  In the spiritual battle against disease one needs to be surrounded by those who believe Jesus heals disease.  They will stand with you.

Where the Mountains of Mourne Sweep Down to the Sea

imageI went to Newcastle today, where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea.
Our family is mourning the death of a much loved Grandmother, who died at the age of 94.
I needed to get away from the emotions and pressures of the present moment.
It was one of those days that carry over a bit of Summer into Autumn.
I did not want to walk far, but a special treat came to me.
My eye caught the colours of flowers growing along the river bank.

I was not expecting to see such an oasis of all kinds of meadow flowers.
Someone had planted them.
It is a tourist attraction that did not cost much, a few packets of seeds.
It will prove to be a great hit with the evening strollers.
I thought of the Scripture,

“For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.
They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭44‬:‭3-4‬ NIV)

This is a wonderful promise I hold onto for my children.
God is pouring out his blessing today on my mother in law’s descendants, even in the midst of sorrow.

Feeling the Pain of Our Son Leaving Home to Go to Canada

We set off at four thirty am to go to Dulin airport.
The mist filled the low lying fields.
Sadness filled our hearts.
We drove along the windy road that passed the green fields, the blue sea and the Mourne Mountains, in silence.
David, our son was going to Canada with Jacquelyn to settle there.
He drank in the view.
We were travelling in our minibus.

Image
Usually it was filled with excited children, but today there were big suit cases in the back, with David and Jacquelyn’s belongings.
Another of our children leaving home and Ireland.
Patrick lives in Australia, Aaron in Slovakia, and Ruth in Scotland.
With the economic downturn, again many young people are leaving Ireland.
Through the decades people have left.
There are five million people in Ireland, but 60 million people in the world from Irish descent.
Dublin airport has become the scene of crying families hugging each other as a loved one leaves.
Today it was our turn.
My husband, my son and I are experiencing this pain of being separated.
David has been going through the process of leaving for four months now.
He successfully applied for a visa.  He came to terms with leaving family, friends and Ireland.
A new beginning.
My husband and I pray for our children and are there for them when they face crises.
We reassure them of our love and support, no matter what they do.
We tell them God loves them and forgives them when they regret and feel guilty for their wrong doings.
I have written before, that God is a god of second, third and many chances.
A God of Jubilee.
He knows that life can get unbearable with disappointment, hopelessness, making wrong decisions, breakup of relationships or loss of belongings.
There is a rise in Ireland of young people committing suicide.
Today I have hope.  David is having a new start in life.  He will prosper, have a wife and children and a home.  I will see him again.
His family, friends and Ireland cannot hold him.  God has good plans for him to give him a hope and a future.
Jesus proclaimed the scripture,

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
(Isaiah 61:1-3 NIV)

I know God’s redeeming power to forgive and heal.  I was facing death but God delivered me from my sins and death.  He has healed my broken heart and provided a new home for me. I am alive to tell others and give them courage to believe God and live.

As Brendan and I drive home, the sun has risen and it’s warmth has dispelled the mists.
May the sun of righteousness rise with healing in its wings to dispel our sadness.

But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. (Malachi 4:2 NIV)

Tonight I was in the grocery store.  There was a song playing and the lyrics were,
“I will see your face again.”  Yes I will see my son David’s face again!

Many songs have been written in Ireland that are laments, expressing the pain that our people have suffered.  May there be new songs of joy as God heals our pain and binds up our wounds not only of our hearts but of our nation.

I gave David a note which says,

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. (Psalm 126:5, 6 NIV)

I write to give others hope, just as this scripture says,

Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins. (Psalm 130:7, 8 NIV)

The Scriptures Describe Exactly What Happened to Me

I was reading from Psalm 116 today from the New Living Translation.

The words describe exactly what happened to me when I was suffering from malignant cancer.

I love The Lord because he hears and answers my prayers.
Because he bends down and listens,
I will pray as long as I have breath.
Death had its hands around my throat
The terrors of the grave overtook me.
I saw only sorrow and trouble.
I called on the name of The Lord,
Please Lord save me.
How kind The Lord is! How good he is!
So merciful this God of ours!
I was facing death, and then he saved me.
Now I can rest for The Lord has been so good to me.
He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling.
So I can walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!

It is good to believe in God.
