A Bird’s Eye View

I’m looking out from an apartment on the third level of an hotel in Greece. I have a bird’s eye view of the sea in the distance, trees, mountains, clouds, tourists and birds. Just above me two sparrows are making a home under the roof tiles. I look down the row of apartments and notice other sparrows flitting in and out from under roof tiles. In this hotel, not only do you get an apartment to stay in, you also get the company of a couple of sparrows rearing their young above your balcony.

It is May in Greece. The weather hasn’t settled yet to be sure of uninterrupted sunshine for the tourist. One takes a risk to take a holiday at this time. We have had rain, sunshine, west winds and east winds blowing. I have my winter coat with me just to be sure to be warm if the temperatures drop.

The swallows are making their nests as well. They build where a wall meets an overhanging roof. They can be a bit messy and visiting tourists may not take kindly to a bird making his nest on their balcony. As a couple of swallows start to build the owners come along and remove the offending mud shelter. The next day the swallows start over again. So it goes till the birds are defeated and it’s too late to have their young.

Today I was able to continue my bird watching when we were out for a meal. I saw how one man has come to terms with the visiting swallows and his visiting tourists. He has built boxes around the nests and a platform below to catch any bird droppings. So no mess for the tourists to see. There is a welcome for the tourists and the swallows. Some swallows have come back to the same nest for years. They flew in and out while we had our meal . This owner has learned to be eco friendly. I looked up as one of the swallows sat proudly on the nest to hatch her young knowing she was secure in the shelter provided by the human owner. Man and birds are living in harmony.

“How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD;
my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young— a place near your altar, LORD Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭84:1-4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God knows the sparrow and the swallow. I am blessed when they are around.

Sickness in Winter

When I was diagnosed with fourth stage cancer in 2010 a friend prophesied to my husband “Do whatever it takes to get healed.” I had the help of the medical profession and people who knew how to pray, I was anointed with oil and ate good food and herbs. After four months I was healed completely.

This is a more difficult winter for us in Northern Ireland this year. We have had longer periods of zero temperatures, snow, wind and rain. The conditions are testing on families and the elderly. Many have the flu. It is time to endure and believe this sickness will pass and do whatever is necessary to get better. Sliced onions beside the bed of the sick person is know to absorb viruses and infections.

The promises in Psalm 91 have been a comfort to me down through the years, if I was in trouble whether with difficult conditions or sickness.

Here are truths that God promises for you as you trust him.

““If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says GOD, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!””
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭91:14-16‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Psalm 103 has been another promise that I hold onto for healing.

“Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,”
Psalm‬ ‭103:2-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When we reared our children they enjoyed good health. Brendan and I would pray for them and believed for walking in good health. Our children seldom missed school. God’s word is powerful and is true if you believe it. Have faith for healing and don’t be afraid.

You may not be feeling well yourself or have someone who has the flu or is in some other difficulty. Stand up and fight and believe God for his healing. It is a battle to believe God will heal if some one still has the symptoms of sickness. Don t look at the circumstances. Pray over your loved one until the sickness leaves. It’s time to fight and endure.

When an army goes out to war it needs the proper equipment to defeat the enemy. Our enemy puts sickness on people. I win by declaring that Jesus took all my diseases and sicknesses and I don’t have to be under the power of sickness no matter what it’s form.
The blood of Jesus heals me.

My war equipment is the Word of God and faith in the living God, Jesus. I speak out loud the Word of God over the sickness and command it to go. Jesus gives me power over all the power of the devil. He puts sickness on people. I take authority over sickness and tell it to go in Jesus name. I say for example, “By the stripes of Jesus be healed. Jesus in your Word I read that you took our diseases and lifted off all sicknesses. Lift off this sickness from my friend tonight. Believe and receive.”

When Jesus was on Earth he healed many people and cast out demons. He chose twelve disciples and gave them authority to do the same.

“Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.
Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.””
‭‭Mark‬ ‭3:13-15, 20-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

People were annoyed with Jesus because he did unusual things. Even his own family were annoyed with him.

This may sound new or strange to you, but I know for sure Jesus heals today.

Singing the Blues. The Time for Singing of Birds has Come

A good night’s sleep is always helpful when I am down.  Lack of sunshine and warmth can give me the blues and cause me to scurry to the comfort of a warm bed.  Sufficient unto the day is the troubles thereof.

When I awake and my worries, anxieties or depression are still heavy on my mind I have a quick prayer, Help Lord.

Whatever time of the day if I am overcome with loneliness, despair or despondency I would get a cup of coffee and something sweet and relax.  I would listen to some uplifting music, or a worship song.  If there is one I really like I would play it over and over.  I would pray for someone else or pick up the phone and talk to a friend and encourage them. If that fails I would share with my husband.  He often sees things from a different perspective.

Having something to look forward to doing often gets me out of the blues.  The down time will come to pass.

It is springtime.  The time for singing of birds has come.   I will sing and be joyful as well.
