I am on a visit to Slovakia this summer. No I’m not heading to the beach, I am heading to the countryside. After being picked up from the airport we travelled for fifty kilometres north. We passed fields of wheat, sunflowers, grapes and maize nearly ready for harvest. What a variety of crops! This is a rich land with hot sunshine to ripen the different foods. Nearby where I was staying there were apple, peach, plum and apricot trees full of ripened fruit.
There was so much fruit there were not enough people to eat it or harvest it and use it for jam or bottling. So much fruit perishing. I thought of the verse from Scripture where Jesus spoke, “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:36-38 NIV)
T I could understand these words more clearly as I watched apples fall to the ground and decay. Many people do not know that God loves them and wants them to know his healing and blessing in their lives. A friend made cakes for us, one was flavoured with apricots and the other was made with plums. I loved the taste. This is my summer lovin. Coffee and fresh cake! Can’t beat it. http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/summer-lovin/
Beautiful piece Angela. Am on the coast of California, half way down, visiting Tim’s family & too am blessed by the beauty & abundance of produce in this area. Pondering “end times”(in light of troubles in Gaza/Israel) is what I am doing & the promise of salvation when He will come to save us from judgment. Maranatha! Shalom! Ãine xxoo
